Protecting Our Community with Mission-Aligned Partners

Partners

For many community-based initiatives, Pahali partners with YUCA, a 26-year-old grassroots organization created, led, and run by young people of color from low-income backgrounds. As a long-time advocate and supporter of tenants’ rights in East Palo Alto, YUCA has been instrumental in shaping and supporting the adoption of key City housing ordinances, as well as in leadership development of many local residents to prepare them for effective service to City Commissions and advisory bodies. Together, YUCA and Pahali are developing the first pilot site of Pahali’s Placekeepers Co-op at YUCA’s headquarters site.

Pahali also joins the City, EPACANDO, YUCA, and CLSEPA in the Partnership for the Bay’s Future anti-displacement initiative. Together, we are working to establish a sustainable funding source for housing preservation, launch a preservation model centered on a Community Land Trust to acquire and renovate properties, and design and support a local preservation ordinance. Our anti-displacement work also involves helping the Palo Mobile Estates residents understand and exercise their rights and opportunities.
