Youth United for Community Action

The landlord decided to sell YUCA’s headquarters and program space, a long-standing community hub. YUCA’s supporters and alumni network, aided by EPACANDO and Pahali CLT, stepped up to buy it first. Not only is YUCA renovating its program space, together we are launching the “Placekeeper’s Co-op,” a community-wide, scattered-site housing cooperative that will ultimately comprise at least 40 homes held permanently affordable for the community's placekeepers. The Placekeepers Co-op will own houses, apartments, and ADUs and lease them to the diverse, multi-generational share-holding co-op members. YUCA will host the co-op’s pilot ADU. The Placekeepers Co-op advances these organizations' missions to improve housing security in East Palo Alto and ensure homegrown leadership continues to steward the present and future of the community.
